Jana Ašenbrennerová

I am a Czech photojournalist and visual anthropologist documenting the human side of medicine. I specialize in long-form, human-interest stories rooted in medical environments.

For more than fifteen years, I have documented medical stories across Asia, Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, and the United States, collaborating with humanitarian organizations and medical teams, including doctors and surgeons, around the world. In these stories, medicine is always present, but never the center. People are.

I follow patients through some of the most challenging moments of their lives, often in places where geography dictates access to care. I also document medical teams working in remote regions with limited infrastructure and resources.

I collaborate with medical organizations, NGOs, and publications, creating visual stories that honor human dignity and inspire change.

I’ve led student photo expeditions for National Geographic in Bhutan, Canadian Arctic, Czech Republic, and India, teaching photography and storytelling.

In 2024, I was named a Fellow International at the Explorers Club.
